Industry Insider Don't Let Distractions While Driving Affect Your Good Insurance Standing   It's easy to get distracted while driving.  Fiddling with your iPod, checking your cell phone for text messages or missed calls, or glancing at your GPS to make sure you are headed in the right direction, can, and often do, result in fender benders, running red lights, or simply hitting the trash can that suddenly jumped out in front of you.    No matter what the cause, these little accidents can be costly to repair, and even costlier in your auto insurance premiums.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the following distractions are the most likely to cause accidents. Drivers suffering from sleeplessness and exhaustion are 4 times more likely to get into an accident. Whether dialing, texting, or talking on a cell phone, drivers who engage in this behavior are 3 times more likely to get into an accident. Reaching for a moving object, such as the water bottle rolling around under the seat, puts drivers at a 9 times greater risk of a crash. Ever slow down to look at an accident on the other side of the freeway?  Looking at objects on the side of the road increases the risk of an accident by 3.7 times. Getting dolled up in the car, rather than applying make-up at home, increases the risk of accidents by 3 times.  Don't let these risky behaviors effect your good driver standing.  Remember, when you are on the road this summer, be safe, have fun, and be aware of just how costly the above behaviors can be.
